of Allah ﷺ said, “Take it easy,” when he heard them saying that. He then placed his palm into the water that was in the cup and exclaimed, “Glorified is Allah!” After that he instructed, “Complete your ablution.” By the One who has tried me in my sight, I actually saw fountains—springs of water—gushing from between the fingers of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he did not lift his hand until they had all finished their ablution. Musaddad transmitted this report from him.
ʿIkrimah ibn ʿAmmār al-ʿAjlī said: Iyās ibn Salamah narrated to us from his father, who said: “We went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a campaign and were so hard-pressed that we thought of slaughtering some of our riding animals. The Prophet of Allah ﷺ ordered us to gather our provision bags, and we spread a leather cloth before him. All the people’s supplies were heaped on that cloth. I stretched to estimate its size and judged it to be no bigger than a she-goat crouching, while we were fourteen hundred men. We ate until we were all satisfied, then stuffed our saddle-bags.
“After that the Prophet of Allah ﷺ asked, ‘Is there any water for ablution?’ A man brought a water-skin containing only a few drops and emptied it into a cup. All of us—fourteen hundred men—performed ablution from it, each taking only a small splash. Later eight more men arrived and asked, ‘Is there any purification water left?’ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, ‘The water for ablution is finished.’” Muslim recorded this narration.
Mūsā ibn ʿUqbah related from Ibn Shihāb that Ibn ʿAbbās said: “When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ returned from al-Hudaybiya, some of his companions said to him, ‘We are exhausted, yet the people still have their mounts; slaughter them.’ ʿUmar said, ‘Do not do that, O Messenger of Allah, for if the people keep whatever mounts remain with them, it will be better for them.’ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said, ‘Spread out your leather mats and cloaks.’ They did so, and he said, ‘Whoever still has any provisions or food, let him scatter them here.’”
