ʿAbdān ibn Aḥmad al-Hamadhānī said: “I heard Abū Ḥātim remark, ‘Ibrāhīm ibn al-Mundhir knows ḥadīth better than Ibrāhīm ibn Ḥamzah al-Zubayrī, but he became confused in his treatment of the Qurʾān. He once came to Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal and asked permission to enter; Aḥmad refused to admit him. He therefore waited until Aḥmad came out, greeted him, and Aḥmad did not return the greeting.’” (2)
Al-Athram stated: “I heard Abū ʿAbd Allāh [Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal] say, ‘What are these things that reach me about al-Ḥizāmī? Al-Fasawī said: “Al-Ḥizāmī died in Muḥarram, in the year 236 AH.” (5)
It was also said that al-Ḥizāmī memorized only a single legal question from Mālik.
