Ibn Abī ʿĀṣim, Muṭayyin, and Ibn Qāniʿ state that Sulaymān died in 234 AH.
Abū al-Shaykh adds: “He came to Isfahān several times and passed away in 236 AH.”
I (the author) say: In spite of his weakness, hardly any of his reports are outright worthless, unlike those of Ibn Ḥumayd, whose narrations contain many aberrations.
Sharaf al-Dīn Aḥmad ibn Hibat Allāh ibn Tāj al-Umanaʾ read to us; ʿAbd al-Muʿizz ibn Muḥammad informed us; Zāhir ibn Ṭāhir and Tamīm ibn Abī Saʿīd both said:
Abū Saʿd al-Kanjarūdhī related to us; Abū ʿAmr ibn Ḥamdān related to us; Abū Yaʿlā al-Mawṣilī related to us; Sulaymān al-Shadhakūnī narrated to us; Ḥafṣ ibn Ghiyāth, from Ibn Jurayj, from ʿAṭāʾ, from Ibn ʿAbbās, reported:
that the Prophet—peace and blessings be upon him—broke his fast at ʿArafah (1).
This is a singular report.
Nevertheless, it is firmly established that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ broke his fast at ʿArafah (2).
A prohibition of fasting on the Day of ʿArafah while at ʿArafah is also recorded in the Sunan with a satisfactory chain of transmission (3).
