Abū Ḥātim said, “In truthfulness and precision he was the equal of al-Nufaylī.” (1)
I remark: al-Nasāʾī and Ibn Mājah both recorded his narrations.
Abū ʿArūbah stated: He died in 221 AH. (2)
I read to ʿAbd al-Ḥāfiẓ ibn Badrān; he informed us, through ʿAbd Allāh ibn Qudāmah al-Faqīh— in the year 715 AH— that Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Bāqī related to us, saying: Abū al-Faḍl ibn Khayrūn informed us, al-Ḥasan ibn Aḥmad informed us, Abū Sahl ibn Ziyād informed us, Abū Jaʿfar Muḥammad ibn Ghālib narrated to us, Aḥmad ibn ʿAbd al-Malik al-Ḥarrānī narrated to us, Abū al-Malīḥ transmitted from Ziyād ibn Bayān, from ʿAlī ibn Nufayl, from Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyib, from Umm Salamah that the Prophet ﷺ said: “The Mahdī will be from the descendants of Fāṭimah.” (3)
A number of transmitters from this stratum remain; they will be discussed under the next tier, for their dates place them between the two. (4)
