There is disagreement over the strength of his narrations.
Those who transmitted from him include: al-Bukhari (1) — but only when he cited Nuʿaym alongside another narrator — Abū Dāwūd, al-Tirmidhi, Ibn Mājah through an intermediary, Yaḥyā ibn Maʿīn, al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī al-Ḥulwānī, Aḥmad ibn Yūsuf al-Sulamī, Muḥammad ibn Yaḥyā al-Dhuhlī, Muḥammad ibn ʿAwf, al-Ramādī, Abū Muḥammad al-Dārimī, Sammuyah, Abū al-Dardāʾ ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Munīb, ʿUbayd ibn Sharīk al-Bazzār, Abū Ḥātim, Muḥammad ibn Ismāʿīl al-Tirmidhī, Yaʿqūb al-Fasawī, Abū al-Aḥwaṣ al-ʿUkbarī, Bakr ibn Sahl al-Dimyāṭī, and many others. The last of them to die was a young scribe who happened to share his prison cell: Ḥamzah ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿĪsā al-Baghdādī.
Al-Marwadhī said: I heard Abū ʿAbd Allāh say, “Nuʿaym ibn Ḥammād came to us while we were standing at Hushaym’s door reviewing the muqaṭṭaʿāt—reports with interrupted chains. He asked, ‘Have you collected the hadith of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him?’ From that very day we devoted ourselves to it.” (2)
