prayer—the menstruating woman and the dog.”
Abu Dawud said: This was also narrated by Ibn Abi ‘Arubah, Hammam, and Hisham, from Qatadah, yet they halted it at Ibn ‘Abbas.
I say: Abu Dawud recorded it in this form in his Sunan (1), and so did al-Nasa’i and al-Qazwini, all through the transmission of Yahya al-Qattan. Rendering it mawquf is the more likely position.
Bilal al-Mughithi informed us; Ibn Rawaj informed us; al-Silafi informed us; Thabit ibn Bundar informed us; al-Husayn ibn Ja‘far al-Salmasi (2) informed us; Abu al-‘Abbas al-Walid ibn Bakr informed us; Mansur ibn ‘Abd Allah al-Khalidi informed us; Ibrahim ibn Musaddad ibn Musarhad ibn Musarbal ibn Mugharbal ibn Mur‘abal ibn Arandal ibn Sarandal ibn Gharandal ibn Masak ibn al-Mustawrid al-Asadi narrated to us; my father, Musaddad, narrated to me; ‘Isa ibn Yunus narrated to us, from Hisham, from his father, from ‘A’ishah:
“The Prophet ﷺ would accept a gift and reward the giver for it.” (3)
This chain includes a strange, disavowed genealogy for Musaddad; I suspect it is fabricated, and Mansur is not dependable.
Musaddad has a Musnad in a single volume transmitted from him by Mu‘adh ibn al-Muthanna, and another, smaller Musnad which Abu Khalifah relates from him (4).
