from Ibn Salamah, from Abū al-ʿUsharāʾ, from his father, who said:
“I asked, ‘O Messenger of Allah, is ritual slaughter (dhakāh) valid only when the cut is made at the throat and the neck-pit?’
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, ‘Even if you pierced its thigh, it would still suffice for you.’ (1)
Al-Muʾammal ibn Muḥammad informed us; al-Kindī informed us; al-Qazzāz informed us; al-Khaṭīb informed us; ʿUmar ibn Ibrāhīm informed us; Muqātil ibn Muḥammad al-ʿAkkī informed us, saying: I heard Ibrāhīm ibn Isḥāq al-Marwazī, better known as al-Ḥarbī, say, ‘I have never seen anyone like Ibn ʿĀʾishah.’
Someone said to him, ‘You met Aḥmad, Ibn Maʿīn, and Isḥāq, yet you say that!’
He replied, ‘Yes. When Hārūn al-Rashīd heard of the brilliance of his character, he summoned him, listed his virtues, and kept saying, “This is by Allah’s favor and by the favor of the Commander of the Faithful.” When al-Rashīd fell silent, he (Ibn ʿĀʾishah) said, “And what is better than that?” Al-Rashīd asked, “What is it, uncle?” He answered, “Recognizing my true rank and showing moderation in dealing with me.” Al-Rashīd responded, “Well said.” (2)
Aḥmad ibn Kāmil reported: Asad ibn al-Ḥasan narrated to us, saying:
A man begged in the mosque, so al-ʿAyshī gave him a mantle, telling him, “Its price is forty dinars; do not let anyone cheat you.” The man sold it, and when people realized it was al-ʿAyshī’s mantle, one of his cousins bought it and returned it to him. (3)
