Al-Bukhārī, Muṭayyan, Muʿāwiyah ibn Ṣāliḥ, and al-Baghawī all stated that Yaḥyā al-Himmānī died in the year 228 AH.
Muṭayyan added: “It was in Ramadan, at al-ʿAskar, and he never applied any dye.”
Al-Baghawī likewise said: “Also in Ramadan.”
He went on: “He was the first of the hadith scholars who had been brought to Sāmarrāʾ to pass away there. He did not use dye, and I have written from him.”
I say: The one who claimed that he died in 225 AH was mistaken.
