On one occasion, both Aḥmad and Ibn Numayr levelled accusations against him (1).
Aḥmad ibn Yūsuf al-Sulamī said: I heard ʿAlī ibn al-Madīnī say, “I met three men who would transmit reports they had never really memorised: Yaḥyā ibn ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd, ʿAbd al-Aʿlā al-Sāmī, and Muʿtamir ibn Sulaymān (2).”
Ibn ʿAdī narrated: ʿAbdān told us, saying, “Ibn Numayr declared, ‘Al-Himmanī is a liar.’ Someone asked ʿAbdān, ‘Did you hear that from him directly?’ He replied, ‘No’ (3).”
Muṭayyan said: I asked Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Numayr about Yaḥyā al-Himmanī, and he answered, “He is reliable—older than all of these men—so write from him (4).”
Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmmār said, “Yaḥyā al-Himmanī’s ḥadith have collapsed” (5).
Ḥusayn ibn Idrīs reported that Ibn ʿAmmār was asked, “What is his flaw?” He replied, “There was not a single sound, singular report in Kūfah—nor in Madinah, nor in any land—except that he claimed to narrate it. How could that be? (6).”
Al-Jawzajānī said, “Yaḥyā ibn ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd is worthless and fickle; his narrations have been abandoned and will not rise again (7).”
Ibn Khuzaymah said: I heard al-Dhuhlī say, “He is gone, like yesterday that has passed away” (8).
