Abū Ḥātim and others said, “He is truthful.” (1)
Zakariyyā al-Sājī remarked, “There is some weakness in him.” (2)
I say: the gravest objection they raised against him is that he alone transmits certain ḥadiths from Ḥammād ibn Zayd. Yet this does not prove that he is unreliable, for he kept the company of Ḥammād for quite some time. (3)
He died in Jumādā al-Ākhirah of the year 223 AH.
Al-Nasāʾī narrated his reports, but only through an intermediary chain.
