It is reported that he once suffered a splitting headache; he was delighted and said, “My Lord has tried me with the trials of the prophets, so the gratitude due for this is that I pray 400 rakʿas (units of prayer).” (1)
He used to say, “My Lord, You have impoverished me and my family—by what means is this? You deal in this manner only with Your friends.” (2)

Those who transmitted from him include Abū Ḥafṣ—the nephew of Bishr al-Ḥāfī—who referred to him as Abū Bakr.
He passed away in 220 AH. (5)
It is also said that he used to subsist on bran worth a single fals, and that when he visited Bishr al-Ḥāfī in Baghdad, Bishr hosted him with bread and dates that cost half a dirham. (6)
