Moreover, I have already quoted on Ibn Yunus’s authority another ḥadīth in the biography of Zāʾidah (1).
Aḥmad ibn Salamah sent word to us in writing, transmitting from Masʿūd al-Jammāl and Abū l-Faḍāʾil al-Kāghadī; they said:
Abū ʿAlī al-Ḥaddād informed us; Abū Nuʿaym informed us; Ibrāhīm ibn Muḥammad ibn Ḥamzah and Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī ibn Ḥubaysh informed us; they said:
Aḥmad ibn Yaḥyā al-Ḥulwānī narrated to us; Aḥmad ibn ʿAbd Allah ibn Yunus narrated to us; ʿAlī ibn Fuḍayl ibn ʿIyāḍ narrated to us, from ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Abī Rawwād, from Nāfiʿ, from Ibn ʿUmar, who said:
A man from the Anṣār saw (in a dream) that it was said to him, “What has your Prophet commanded you to do?”
He replied, “He commanded us to say ‘Subḥān Allah’ thirty-three times, ‘Al-ḥamdu lillāh’ thirty-three times, and ‘Allāhu akbar’ thirty-four times.”
The voice then said, “Rather, glorify Allah twenty-five times, praise Him twenty-five times, magnify Him twenty-five times, and declare His oneness—‘Lā ilāha illā Allāh’—twenty-five times; that makes one hundred.”
When morning came he mentioned this to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, who said, “Do as the Anṣārī has said.”
Al-Nasāʾī (2) also recorded this report through the narration of Abū Zurʿah.
