Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal praised him and even instructed his son ʿAbd Allāh to attend his sessions (1). Yaḥyā ibn Maʿīn, however, accused him of fabricating reports. He died sometime around 229 AH.
127 – ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn al-Khaṭṭāb, Abū al-Ḥasan al-Kūfī *
A trustworthy imām, known as Abū al-Ḥasan al-Kūfī and later resident in Basra.
He narrated from: Shuʿbah; al-Ḥasan ibn Ṣāliḥ; Abū Maʿshar al-Sindī; Qays ibn al-Rabīʿ; Muḥammad ibn Ismāʿīl ibn Rajāʾ al-Zubaydī; and others.
Those who narrated from him include: Abū Ḥafṣ al-Fallās, Aḥmad ibn al-Azhar, Abū Qilābah, Ibrāhīm ibn Dayzīl, Abū Muslim al-Kajjī, al-ʿAbbās ibn al-Faḍl al-Asfāṭī (2), ʿUthmān ibn Khurrādhadh, Muḥammad ibn Ḥayyān al-Māzinī, and many more.
Al-Fallās declared him reliable. Abū Ḥātim said, “He is truthful” (3). Abū Dāwūd reported that he died in 224 AH (4).
I say: Only Ibn Mājah included his ḥadiths.
