Abū Ḥātim was asked about him and replied, “An old shaykh.” (2)
Isḥāq ibn Ibrāhīm al-Harawī al-Qarrāb stated: “He died in the year 228 AH.”

The shaykh, the imam, and the leading transmitter of Basra, Abū ʿUthmān al-Bāhilī, their client, the Basran.
Birth: sometime in the 130s AH.
He narrated from Mālik ibn Mighwal, ʿIkrimah ibn ʿAmmār, Shuʿbah ibn al-Ḥajjāj, Ḥammād ibn Salamah, ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Masʿūdī, Abū Idrīs—who had accompanied Anas ibn Mālik—Ḥammād ibn Zayd, and others.
Those who transmitted from him include al-Bukhārī in his Ṣaḥīḥ, though only in conjunction with another narrator (3), and Abū Dāwūd in

The first is his report from Shubah, from Amr ibn Murrah, from Urwah on the virtues of Aishah; Bukhari records it at 7/83 with corroborations from Adam ibn Abi Iyas, Ghundar, and others who also narrated from Shubah. The second is his report from Shubah, from Ibn Abi Bakr, from Anas on the major sins, which al-Bukhari cites alongside a parallel route from Abd al-Samad through Shubah. It is thus evident that al-Bukhari did not rely on him as an independent authority.”
