Abu Nasr al-Kalabadhi, al-Walid ibn Bakr al-Andalusi, and Hibbat Allah al-Lalkaʾi said: “This ‘Abd Allah is ʿAbd Allah ibn Salih al-ʿIjli al-Kufi.”
Abu ʿAli ibn al-Sakan (1), in his sound recension from al-Farabri on the authority of al-Bukhari, recorded: “ʿAbd Allah ibn Maslamah—meaning al-Qaʿnabi—narrated to us; ʿAbd al-ʿAziz narrated to us,” and then he related the report.
Abu Masʿud the hadith-master (2), in al-Aṭraf, said: “ʿAbd Allah is ʿAbd Allah ibn Rajaʾ.” He then added, “The hadith is preserved in the collections of ʿAbd Allah ibn Rajaʾ as well as ʿAbd Allah ibn Salih.”
Abu ʿAli al-Ghassani the hadith-master (3) held, rather, that the narrator is ʿAbd Allah ibn Salih, the scribe of al-Layth.
= The Quran: “O Prophet, We have surely sent you as a witness, a bearer of glad tidings, and a warner.” The Torah likewise states: “O Prophet, We have surely sent you as a witness, a bearer of glad tidings, and a warner, and as a safeguard for the unlettered. You are My servant and My messenger; I have named you al-Mutawakkil. He is neither harsh nor hard-hearted, nor loud in the market-places; he does not repay evil with evil but forgives and pardons. He will not be taken (in death) until, through him, the crooked religion has been set straight so that people say: ‘There is no god but Allah.’ By him blind eyes will be opened, deaf ears will be made to hear, and sealed hearts will be unlocked.”
