Al-Bukhari said, “His ḥadiths are well known.” (1)
His cousin al-Zubayr (2) remarked, “Among the Quraysh of Medina he was the model to whom people looked for upright conduct, juristic insight, and chastity, and he used to fast continuously.”
He further said, “He passed away in Muḥarram of the year 216 AH, at the age of seventy.”
Al-Bukhari recorded the same date for his death (3), which is ten years after the death of al-Saʿigh.
Al-Nasāʾī and Ibn Mājah both included his narrations.
A ḥadith reported through al-Saʿigh: Ahmad ibn Hibat Allah informed us; ʿAbd al-Muʿizz ibn Muḥammad, by ijāzah, informed us; Zāhir ibn Ṭāhir informed us; Abū Saʿd al-Kanjarūdhī informed us; Abū ʿAmr ibn Ḥamdan related to us; Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad ibn Nuʿaym narrated to us; Abū Salamah Yaḥyā ibn al-Mughīrah al-Makhzūmī narrated to us; ʿAbd Allah ibn Nāfiʿ narrated to us, from ʿĀṣim ibn ʿUmar, from ʿAbd Allah ibn Dīnār, from Ibn ʿUmar, who said:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Every intoxicant is unlawful, and every intoxicant is wine.” (4)
This is a singular ḥadith.
The ʿAbd Allah here is al-Saʿigh; he is cited with a nisbah—Allah knows best.
