was praying in that room when the verse was revealed: “Indeed, Allah only intends to remove impurity from you, O People of the House, and to purify you completely” (al-Ahzāb 33). He gathered up the remaining part of the cloak and draped it over them, then stretched his right hand out from beneath the cloak, raised it toward the sky, and said, “O Allah, these are the people of my household and my nearest kin (1).”
She continued: “So I put my head inside and said, ‘Messenger of Allah, and am I with you?’
He replied, ‘You are upon goodness,’ twice (2).”
Al-Tirmidhī (3) recorded it in abridged form and declared it sound, through the isnād of al-Thawrī, from Zubayd, from Shahr ibn Ḥawshab.
