Aḥmad ibn ʿAlī ibn al-Ḥasan al-Baṣrī said: I heard Abū Dāwūd al-Sijistānī—someone remarked to him, “People say Abū Mushir was proud of himself”—and he replied:
“He was one of the trustworthy. May Allah have mercy on Abū Mushir; in Islam he held a lofty rank. He was forced to recant during the ordeal, but he refused. He was brought before the sword and bared his neck; even when the blade was unsheathed, he would not give in. When they saw that resolve, they sent him to prison, and there he died. ⦗1⦘”
It is also said that Abū Mushir lived seventy-nine years.
Al-Dhuhlī said: I heard Abū Mushir recite:
“No good is there in this world for one who has no share
With Allah in the everlasting home prepared over there.
If the world should enchant some men, remember—its pleasure is slight:
A meagre provision whose passing is swiftly in sight.”
Abū Ḥassān al-Ziyādī and others stated: Abū Mushir died in Rajab of the year 218 AH. ⦗2⦘
I say: His hadiths are recorded in the Six Books.
