Others maintained that al-Qaṭwānī was merely a sobriquet of his, while a second view holds that it is an attribution to a particular quarter of the city (1).
According to al-Khaṭīb, the last person to narrate from him before his death was Muḥammad ibn Shaddād.
Al-Bukhārī also transmitted the ḥadith, “Whoever shows enmity to a friend of Mine, I have declared war upon him,” through Ibn Karāmah from Khālid. It is extremely singular; no one related it from him except Ibn Karāmah (2).
56 – Surayj ibn al-Nuʿmān ibn Marwān al-Jawharī * (Kh, 4)
The Imām, Abū al-Ḥusayn—though some said: Abū al-Ḥasan—the Baghdadi, al-Jawharī, al-Lu’lu’ī.
He narrated from Fulayḥ ibn Sulaymān, Ḥammād ibn Salamah, Nāfiʿ ibn ʿUmar al-Makkī, ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Muʾammal al-Makhzūmī, Ḥashraj ibn Nubātah, Abū ʿAwānah, Ḥammād ibn Zayd, and others of their rank.
Those who reported from him include al-Bukhārī—while the remaining compilers did so only through an intermediary, Muslim excepted—Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal, Aḥmad ibn Manīʿ, Muḥammad ibn Rāfiʿ, Ismāʿīl Sammuwayh, Abū Bakr al-Ṣāghānī, Abū Zurʿah al-Rāzī, Ibrāhīm al-Ḥarbī, and many more.
