He also had a distinctive preference in Qur’anic recitation, which was transmitted from him by his son Muḥammad ibn Abī ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, and a great many students learned it directly from him.
Al-Bukhārī said: “He died in Mecca in the year 212 or 213 AH” (1).
Muṭayyin said: “In 213 AH” (2).
I say: some of his higher-level transmissions are found in al-Qaṭīʿiyyāt (3), and he was one of the leading shaykhs of Islam, may Allah have mercy on him.
Ibn Qudāmah and Ibn al-Bukhārī informed us, by formal authorization, saying:
ʿUmar ibn Muḥammad informed us; Abū Ghālib ibn al-Bannāʾ informed us; Abū Muḥammad al-Jawharī informed us; Abū Bakr al-Qaṭīʿī narrated to us; Bishr ibn Mūsā narrated to us; Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Muqriʾ narrated to us, from Abū Ḥanīfah, from ʿAṭāʾ, from Jābir:
He saw the Prophet pray wearing a light shirt, with neither a waist-wrapper nor a cloak. He added, “I do not think he prayed in it except to show us that there is no harm in praying in a single garment.” (4)
Muḥammad ibn al-Muqriʾ said: “Whenever Ibn al-Mubārak was asked about Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, he would reply: ‘He was pure gold.’” (5)
Abū Ḥātim said: “He is trustworthy.” (6)
