Abū Nuʿaym’s reports are cited time and again in the major compilations and the smaller pamphlets. The ḥāfiẓ Abū Nuʿaym (1) even collected, in a separate booklet, every narration of his that had reached him with an elevated chain from Abū Nuʿaym al-Mulāʾī. He arranged the material according to the various lines of transmission and opened the work with the narration related by Ibn Fāris, from Ibn al-Furāt, and by Sammūyah—both of them transmitting from him. Altogether the booklet contains seventy-eight narrations, some of which are Companion-reports.
