Both reports were also transmitted by Aḥmad on the authority of Abū Nuʿaym.
Ibn Saʿd relates in his work al-Ṭabaqāt ⦗1⦘: ʿAbdūs ibn Kāmil informed us, saying, “Abū Nuʿaym was buried on the last day of Shaʿbān.”
He added, “Someone who was present at his bedside told me that he fell ill the night preceding Monday, one day before his death. He did not speak until midday, after which he spoke briefly and instructed his son ʿAbd al-Raḥmān to look after a small grandson of his named Maytham, who had died before him. When evening came a stabbing pain struck his neck and two swellings (‘warshakayn’) appeared on his hand. He passed away that very night and was carried out for burial at daybreak. Many people were still unaware of his passing. Later the governor, Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿĪsā ibn Mūsā al-Hāshimī, arrived and reproached them for not informing him. He then moved aside from the grave and performed the funeral prayer over him together with his entourage.”
Aḥmad ibn Mulāʿib said, “I heard Abū Nuʿaym say, ‘I was born toward the end of the year 130 AH.’ ⦗2⦘”
