- Abū Nuʿaym al-Faḍl ibn Dukayn al-Taymī al-Ṭalḥī * (ʿ)
The great ḥāfiẓ (hadith master), Shaykh al-Islām, al-Faḍl ibn ʿAmr ibn Ḥammād ibn Zuhayr ibn Dirham—al-Taymī, al-Ṭalḥī, a client of Quraysh, from Kūfa, known as al-Mulāʾī and al-Aḥwal, and a freedman of the household of Ṭalḥa ibn ʿUbayd Allah.
He was the business partner of ʿAbd al-Salām ibn Ḥarb al-Mulāʾī; the two of them kept a shop in Kūfa where they sold cloth and other goods. That was the way of most of the early scholars: they lived on what they earned with their own hands.
A group of our teachers wrote to us, saying: ʿUmar ibn Muḥammad informed us; Aḥmad ibn al-Ḥasan informed us; al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī al-Jawharī informed us; Aḥmad ibn Jaʿfar narrated to us; Bishr ibn Mūsā narrated to us; Abū Nuʿaym narrated to us; Sufyān narrated from Manṣūr, from Ibrāhīm, from Hammām, who said:
“We were sitting with Hudhayfa when someone said to him, ‘A man is taking reports up to ʿUthmān.’ Hudhayfa replied, ‘I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, “No qattāt (talebearer, carrier of gossip) shall enter Paradise.”’”
This ḥadith was also transmitted by Aḥmad and al-Bukhārī through Abū Nuʿaym.⦗1⦘
