Siyar Aʿlām al-NubalāʾShams al‑Din al‑Dhahabi

al-Ḥaqq—namely, his remark: “In his Aḥkām he reports traditions from Qabīṣah without addressing his status, even though, in their estimation, Qabīṣah is often mistaken.”

I say: Qabīṣah has already vaulted the bridge and the scholars have accepted him as evidence, so show me the anomalous hadith for which he is being censured!

Al-Sarī ibn Yaḥyā al-Tamīmī, Hārūn ibn Ḥātim, Muṭayyīn, and others said that Qabīṣah died in 215 AH.
Muʿāwiyah ibn Ṣāliḥ al-Dimashqī deviated—indeed he was mistaken—when he said that he died in 213.

His narrations appear in the Six Canonical Books.

He was the brother of:

17 – Sufyān ibn ʿUqbah al-Suwāʾī * (4)
Sufyān was the elder of the two.

Sufyān met Ḥusayn al-Muʿallim, Misʿar, and several others.

Al-Himyari al-Fasi, better known as Ibn al-Qattan (d. 628 AH/1231 CE), was described by Ibn al-Abbar as one of the most knowledgeable scholars of hadith methodology, an unrivalled memoriser of narrator names, and exceptionally meticulous in transmission. His work Al-Wahm wa-l-Iyham, written as a critical commentary on Al-Ahkam al-Kubra by the hafiz and scholar Abd al-Haqq al-Ishbili (d. 581 AH/1185 CE), showcases his prodigious memory, sharp insight, and critical skill. Nevertheless, as he himself notes in his Tadhkira (p. 1407), he was sometimes excessively severe in judging transmitters, to the point of declaring Hisham ibn Urwa and others unreliable. See also his remarks in Al-Mizan under the entry for Hisham ibn Urwa. Al-Wahm wa-l-Iyham has not yet been printed. It survives in two volumes: the first counts 284 folios, the second 285. The photographic copy in our possession states at the end that it was collated against the author’s autograph on 8 Jumada I 720 AH/1320 CE.
