Siyar Aʿlām al-NubalāʾShams al‑Din al‑Dhahabi
  1. Bakr ibn Bakkār, Abū ʿAmr al-Qaysī al-Baṣrī
A muhaddith and leading scholar, Abū ʿAmr al-Qaysī, from Basra.

He narrated from Ibn ʿAwn, ʿAbbād ibn Manṣūr, Qurrat ibn Khālid, Ḥamzah al-Zayyāt, Hishām al-Dastawāʾī, Misʿar ibn Kidām, Shuʿbah ibn al-Ḥajjāj, and many others.

He left behind a well-known fascicle (juzʾ).

Those who transmitted from him include his companion Abū Dāwūd al-Ṭayālisī, al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī al-Ḥulwānī, Ismāʿīl ibn ʿAbd Allāh Sammūyah, Muḥammad ibn Ibrāhīm al-Jayrānī (1), Ibrāhīm ibn Saʿdān, and others.

Abū ʿĀṣim al-Nabīl declared him reliable.

Abū Ḥātim al-Rāzī said: “He is not strong” (2).

Ibn Ḥibbān stated: “He is trustworthy; he does not err.”

Yaḥyā ibn Maʿīn, however, said: “He is nothing” (3). This was reported by ʿAbbās al-Dūrī from him.

Abū Nuʿaym the ḥāfiẓ (4) said: “Bakr came to Isfahān in the year 206 AH and narrated….”

All of these sources describe him as “al-Qaysi”; only al-ʿUqayli’s Duʿafāʾ gives “al-Qurashi,” which is a scribal error. (1) The nisba comes from Jirān, a village two farsakhs from Isfahan.
