—and Majestic: “Faces on that Day will be radiant, gazing upon their Lord.” He said, “They will behold the Face of the All-Merciful.” (1)
ʿAbd al-Razzaq died in Shawwal of the year 211 AH.
Yahya ibn Maʿin said: I heard Hisham ibn Yusuf say, “ʿAbd al-Razzaq was eighteen years old when Ibn Jurayj came to Yemen.”
Yaʿqub ibn Shaybah reports from Ibn al-Madini: Hisham ibn Yusuf told me, “ʿAbd al-Razzaq was the most knowledgeable among us and the strongest in memorization.”
Yaʿqub added: “All of them were trustworthy, firmly grounded.” (2)
221 – Hisham ibn Yusuf al-Sanʿani (Kh, 4)
The Imām, the reliable authority, judge of Sanaʿa in Yemen and its jurist, Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān; he was a contemporary of ʿAbd al-Razzaq, yet more venerable and more exacting, and he passed away earlier. For that reason he is ranked alongside Maʿn ibn ʿIsa and ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Mahdi.
He narrated from Ibn Jurayj, Maʿmar, Sufyan al-Thawri, al-Qasim ibn Fayyad, and others. He was not a prolific transmitter, but what he related was finely verified.
Those who related from him include: Ibrahim ibn Musa al-Farraʾ, Yahya ibn Maʿin, Ishaq ibn Rahwayh, ʿAbd Allah ibn Muhammad al-Musnadi, and many others.
Ahmad ibn Hanbal did not meet him.
