Ibn Saʿd, Muṭayyin, ʿAbd al-Ṣamad ibn al-Faḍl, and others maintained that he died in the year 215 AH. Ibn Saʿd adds: “In Balkh, halfway through Shaʿbān; he was approaching one hundred years of age, and he was trustworthy—solid in hadith.” (1)
I say: al-Bukhārī met no one in Khurasan older than he.
All six canonical compilers included his transmissions.
Yūsuf ibn Abī Naṣr, ʿAbd Allah ibn Qawwām, and a number of others informed us—they had heard al-Ḥusayn ibn Abī Bakr say:
Abū’l-Waqt informed us; Abū’l-Ḥasan al-Muẓaffarī narrated to us; Ibn Ḥammūyah informed us; Muḥammad ibn Yūsuf narrated to us; al-Bukhārī told us; Makki ibn Ibrāhīm narrated to us; ʿAbd Allah ibn Saʿīd ibn Abī Hind narrated to us, from his father, from Ibn ʿAbbās—who said:
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “There are two blessings about which many people are deceived: good health and spare time.” (2)

Ibn al-Jawzi comments: A person may enjoy good health yet have no free time because he is pre-occupied with earning his livelihood; another may have free time yet lack good health. When both health and leisure coincide but laziness keeps him from acts of obedience, he is the real loser. Indeed, this world is the field where the harvest of the Hereafter is sown, and it is the marketplace whose profit becomes evident in the next life. Whoever invests his leisure and health in obeying Allah is truly fortunate, whereas whoever squanders them in disobedience is the one who incurs loss.
