ʿAbd al-Samad ibn al-Faḍl said: “I witnessed Makki declaring:
‘I have performed the pilgrimage sixty times, married sixty women, lived beside the Sacred House for ten years, and recorded ḥadīth from seventeen of the Successors; had I known that people would come to depend on me, I would never have written from anyone beneath the rank of a Successor.’ (1)
It is likewise reported from ʿAbd al-Samad ibn al-Faḍl that he said: “Makki ibn Ibrāhīm narrated from eleven of the Successors, of whom nine are confirmed in my possession.” (2)
ʿUmar ibn Mudrik said: “I heard Makki ibn Ibrāhīm say:
‘I have crossed the desert from Balkh fifty times for the Hajj, and I have paid, in rent for the houses of Mecca, one thousand two hundred-odd dīnārs.’ (3)
This ʿUmar is weak.
Al-Dāraqutnī said: “Makki is reliable and trustworthy.” (4)
Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Wahhāb al-Farrāʾ said: “The righteous Makki ibn Ibrāhīm narrated to us in Nīshāpūr.” (5)
ʿAmr ibn ʿAlī said: “Makki came to us in the year 212 AH.” (6)
Abū Ḥātim and al-Bukhārī said: “He died in the year 214 AH.” (7)
