(1) He is recorded with a single hadith, no. 431, transmitted by Yazid al-Ruqashi from Anas ibn Malik: “Whenever the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed ablution, he would run his fingers through his beard and separate his fingers twice.” The chain is weak because of the weakness of this Yahya and of his teacher Yazid. Among those who rated Yahya as unreliable are Ibn Maʿin. ʿAmr ibn ʿAli al-Fallas said, “He does not lie deliberately, but he makes mistakes and errors.” Abu Zurʿa and Abu Hatim judged him “weak in hadith,” and Abu Hatim added, “his hadith is extremely unsound.” Al-Nasaʾi declared, “He is not trustworthy.” Al-Aqili called his reports “munkar.” Al-Daraqutni said, “Weak,” and Ibn Hibban noted, “He narrates from reliable transmitters what is not their hadith; it is impermissible to rely on him when he is the sole narrator.”
