—I took a hopeful omen—if omens could ever avail—when I chose his name,

Aḥmad ibn Salāmah informed us, through Khalīl ibn Badr and Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad, who both said:
Abū ʿAlī al-Ḥaddād informed us; Abū Nuʿaym the ḥāfiẓ informed us; Abū Bakr ibn Khallād narrated to us; Muḥammad ibn al-Faraj and al-Ḥārith ibn Muḥammad narrated to us, saying:

This wording is unique to Ibn Kunāsah.
Al-Nasāʾī also recorded it from Ḥumayd ibn Zanjawayh on his authority.
Al-Dāraqutnī said, “He has no corroborator for it; the leading ḥadith scholars transmit it from Hishām, from ʿUrwah, as a mursal report. It is likewise related by Zayd ibn al-Ḥarīsh, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Rajāʾ, from Sufyān al-Thawrī, from Hishām ibn ʿUrwah, from his father, from ʿĀʾishah—with a similar wording traced back to the Prophet.”
