The ḥadith master Ibrāhīm ibn Mūsā said, “I learned ḥadith from him.”
ʿAlī ibn al-Madīnī stated, “Yahyā ibn Ḍurays possessed ten thousand ḥadiths narrated from Ḥammād ibn Salamah.” (1)
Al-Bukhārī transmitted—through Yūsuf ibn Mūsā—who said: “Yahyā ibn Ḍurays died in Rabīʿ al-Awwal of the year 203 AH.” (2)
I (the author) add: He was the grandfather of the Rayy ḥadith scholar Muḥammad ibn Ayyūb al-Bajalī, compiler of the book Fadāʾil al-Qurʾān (The Virtues of the Qur’an).
Yahyā ibn Maʿīn said, “Yahyā ibn Ḍurays is reliable.” (3)
Abū Ḥātim remarked, “He had ten thousand ḥadiths from Ḥammād.” (4)
Wakīʿ observed, “He is among the foremost preservers of ḥadith, though he erred in two reports.” (5)
I comment: Even had he slipped in twenty ḥadiths, considering the vast corpus he related, he would still be counted trustworthy.
