Bishr ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Sālim al-Hāshimī, their client, a native of Bukhārā; compiler of the book al-Mubtadaʾ—a well-known work in two volumes from which Ibn Jarīr and those after him have quoted, though it contains outrageous and fabricated reports.
He narrated from al-Aʿmash, Ibn Abī Khālid, Ibn Jurayj, Ibn Isḥāq, ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ṭāwūs, Juwaybir ibn Saʿīd, Muqātil ibn Sulaymān, and many others.
Among those who transmitted from him were Salamah ibn Shabīb, Aḥmad ibn Ḥafṣ, Muḥammad ibn Yazīd and the other Naysābūrīs, Muḥammad ibn Qudāmah al-Bukhārī, Ismāʿīl ibn ʿĪsā al-ʿAṭṭār, and ʿAlī ibn Ḥarb al-Junday-Sabūrī (1).
Makkī ibn ʿAbdān said: “Muḥammad ibn ʿUmar al-Dārbajardī (2) narrated to us; he said, ‘Abū Ḥudhayfah al-Bukhārī—reliable—narrated to us from Ibn Jurayj, from Ibn Abī Mulaykah, from Ibn ʿAbbās, from the Prophet ﷺ who said: ‘Whoever circumambulates the House should touch all of its corners.’ (3)’ ”
I say: One should take no comfort in the attestation of this man’s reliability, for the ḥadith—as you can see—is baseless.
Muslim said: “They abandoned the narrations of Abū Ḥudhayfah.”
