Yaʿqūb ibn Shaybah said, “He is absolutely trustworthy.”(1)
The author of al-Kamāl(2) was in error, claiming that he (Yūnus) reported from ʿAbd al-Wahhāb ibn Bukht and ʿUbayd Allāh ibn ʿUmar—something that is impossible.
Scholars disagreed about the year of his death:
• Abū Ḥassān al-Ziyādī and Ibn Ḥibbān said it was in 207 AH.
• Ibn Ḥibbān added: on the ninth of Ṣafar.
• Ibn Saʿd, Khalīfah, and Muṭayyin said it was in 208 AH.
• Ibn Saʿd further specified: on Tuesday,(3) the seventh of Ṣafar.
Ismāʿīl ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān narrated to us; Abū Muḥammad ibn Qudāmah the jurist narrated to us; Aḥmad ibn al-Muqarrab narrated to us; Ṭirād ibn Muḥammad al-Naqīb narrated to us; ʿAlī ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Hāshimī narrated to us; Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr narrated to us; Muḥammad ibn ʿUbayd Allāh narrated to us; Yūnus ibn Muḥammad narrated to us; Abū ʾUways narrated to us, from Ibn Shihāb, from Sālim and Ḥamzah, the two sons of ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUmar, from their father, who said:
He heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, “Ill omen is in the horse, the woman, and the house.”
This wording is agreed upon by al-Bukhārī and Muslim through the narration of Ibn Shihāb.(4)
It is also transmitted by al-Nasaʾī, from Muḥammad
