Muḥammad ibn Saʿd (1) and Naṣr al-Jahḍamī said: “He died in the year 204 AH.”
Ibn Abī ʿAmr Abū al-Ghanāʾim al-Qaysī and a number of others informed us in their written transmissions, saying: ʿUmar ibn Muḥammad informed us; Hibat Allāh ibn al-Ḥuṣayn informed us; Muḥammad ibn Muḥammad ibn Ghaylān informed us; Abū Bakr al-Shāfiʿī informed us; Muḥammad ibn Shaddād al-Mismaʿī narrated to us; Abū ʿĀmir al-ʿAqadī narrated to us; Qurrah narrated to us, from al-Ḥasan, who said:
“Musaylimah the Liar came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. When he rose to leave, the Prophet said, ‘This man will be raised as a ruin for his people’ (2).”
Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh, ʿAbd al-Dāʾim al-Wazzān, ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad al-Ḥanbalī, Abū Bakr ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUmar, Aḥmad ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Warrāq, and ʿUmar ibn Abī Bakr al-Abbārī informed us, saying: ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUmar informed us; ʿAbd al-Awwal ibn ʿĪsā informed us; Abū ʿĀṣim al-Fuḍaylī informed us; ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī Shurayḥ informed us; Yaḥyā—meaning, ibn Ṣāʿid—narrated to us; Bakkār ibn Qutaybah narrated to us; Abū ʿĀmir al-ʿAqadī narrated to us; ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Isḥāq narrated to us, from his father, from Abū Hurayrah:
From the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, who said: “Feed them from what you eat, clothe them from what you wear, and if something becomes spoiled for you, sell it; and do not torment the creation of Allah.”
He means: the bondservants.
This is a singular, unique ḥadith. As for this ʿUbayd Allāh, Ibn Abī Ḥātim mentioned him, noting that he narrates from his father, and he did not censure either of them. Moreover, the text is preserved through another chain (3).
