Al-Bukhārī said, “People speak against him.” (1)
I add: Among those who narrated from him were Baqiyyah ibn al-Walīd, al-Shāfiʿī, and Muḥammad ibn Abī al-Sarī.
Ibn Abī ʿĀṣim stated that he died in the year 202 AH.
Al-Bukhārī also related: Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq told me, “I heard ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ayyūb say that Ayyūb ibn Suwayd drowned at sea in the year 193 AH.” (2)
I say: The first date is the correct one.
