Ibn Saʿd said, “He is reliable; he died in Dhu al-Ḥijjah of the year 203 AH in Basra.” (1)
I add: he actually died in the 180s.
ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd al-Munʿim informed us; ʿAbd al-Ṣamad ibn Muḥammad, in our presence, informed us; ʿAlī ibn al-Musallam informed us; al-Ḥusayn ibn Ṭalāb informed us; Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad al-Ghassānī informed us; Wahb ibn Muḥammad in Basra narrated to us; Naṣr ibn ʿAlī al-Jahḍamī narrated to us; Muḥammad ibn Bakr al-Bursānī narrated to us, from Ibn Jurayj, from Ibn al-Munkadir, from Abū Ayyūb, from Maslama ibn Mukhallad, who said:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Whoever conceals a Muslim’s fault, Allah will conceal him in this world and the Hereafter; whoever relieves a distressed person, Allah will relieve him of one of the distresses of the Day of Resurrection; and whoever sees to his brother’s need, Allah will see to his need.” (2)
This is a singular (gharīb), unique hadith.
