corroborated at all—neither as to the chain nor the wording.

He then added: “I have not seen any statement about him from the early critics who evaluate transmitters, and although he is weak, his reports are still written down.” (1)

Among the objectionable pieces he narrates is the following: “Umayy al-Sayrafi related to us, from Nafiʿ, from Ibn ʿUmar, who said, ‘Whoever performs the Maghrib prayer before reaching Muzdalifah must repeat it.’” (2)

There are several scholars who share his name; among them are:

The same report appears in al-Muwatta 1:401, al-Bukhari 3:418, and Muslim, no. 1287, where Abu Ayyub al-Ansari relates that he performed the Maghrib and ‘Isha prayers together with the Messenger of Allah during the Farewell Pilgrimage at Muzdalifah. Another version is found in al-Muwatta 1:400–401, al-Bukhari 1:212, and Muslim, no. 2280, from Usama b. Zayd: “The Messenger of Allah departed from ‘Arafat; when he reached the pass he dismounted, relieved himself, and made a partial ablution. I said, ‘Prayer, O Messenger of Allah.’ He replied, ‘The prayer is ahead of you.’ When he reached Muzdalifah he performed a complete ablution; the call to prayer was given and he prayed Maghrib, after which each person hobbled his camel where he was. Then the iqama was given for ‘Isha, which he prayed without any intervening prayer.” (*) Al-Bukhari, al-Tarikh al-Kabir 3:181; Ibn Qutaybah, al-Ma‘arif, p. 352; Ibn Abi Hatim, al-Jarh wa-l-Ta‘dil 3:361; Ibn al-Nadim, al-Fihrist, p. 354; Ibn Khallikan, Wafayat al-A‘yan 2:224; al-Mizzi, Tahdhib al-Kamal, p. 371; al-Dhahabi, Tadhhib al-Tahdhib 1:195/1 and al-Kashif 1:276; Ibn Kathir, al-Bidaya wa-l-Nihaya 9:60; Ibn Hajar, Tahdhib al-Tahdhib 3:128; al-Khazraji, Khulasat Tadhhib al-Kamal, p. 103; Ibn al-‘Imad, Shadharat al-Dhahab 1:96, 99; Ibn Nasir al-Din, Tahdhib Tarikh Ibn ‘Asakir 5:119, 123.
