ʿUthmān ibn Ghiyāth narrated to us; Abū Naḍrah narrated to us, from Abū Saʿīd al-Khuḍrī, who reported that the Prophet ﷺ said:
“People will cross the bridge over Hell. Upon it are hooks, thorns, and grappling irons that snatch people away, while on either side stand angels calling out, ‘O Allah, grant safety! Grant safety!’
Some will pass as swiftly as lightning, others like the wind, others like a swift horse; some will run, some will crawl on all fours, and some will inch along. As for the denizens of the Fire—those truly destined for it—they will neither die nor live. Yet there will be others seized for their sins and misdeeds: they will be burned, after which permission will be given for intercession…”—the ḥadith continues. (1)
Al-Nasāʾī recorded it through the chain of Khālid al-Ṭaḥḥān, from ʿUthmān ibn Ghiyāth, a reliable transmitter.
Ibn Abī ʿĀṣim, in his work Kitāb al-Libās, said: “Abū Yaḥyā Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥīm narrated to us, Rawḥ ibn ʿUbādah narrated to us, Shuʿbah narrated to us, from al-Shaybānī, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Shaddād, from Maymūnah, who said:
‘The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray on a small mat, and it had images on it.’ (2)
Al-Bukhārī also transmitted the report, but without the words ‘and it had images on it.’ (3)
