al-Dīnawarī informed us; ʿĀṣim ibn al-Ḥasan informed us; Abū ʿUmar ibn Mahdī related to us; Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Maḥāmilī narrated to us; Zayd ibn Akhzam narrated to us; Muʿādh ibn Hishām narrated to us; he said: “My father told me, from Ḥammād, from Ribʿī ibn Ḥirāsh, from Ḥudhayfah, that the Prophet ﷺ said:
‘A people will come out of the Fire by the mercy of Allah and the intercession of the intercessors; they will be called al-Jahannamiyyūn (the people of Hell).’
Ḥammād said: He mentioned that they then implored Allah to remove that name from them, and He granted their request.
This ḥadīth possesses a good chain of transmission, and it was not recorded in the Six Books. (1)
120 – Abū al-Bakhtarī Wahb ibn Wahb ibn Kathīr al-Asadī *
Chief Judge Wahb ibn Wahb ibn Kathīr ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Zamʿah ibn al-Aswad ibn al-Muṭṭalib ibn Asad al-Qurashī, al-Asadī, al-Madīnī, was one of the notable men, yet his ḥadīth is to be abandoned.
He transmitted from Hishām ibn ʿUrwah, Jaʿfar ibn Muḥammad, and ʿUbayd Allāh ibn ʿUmar.
Among those who narrated from him were Rajāʾ ibn Sahl, al-Musayyab ibn Wāḍiḥ, and others.
He later settled in Baghdad, was appointed judge over the army camp of the caliph al-Mahdī, and thereafter judge of Medina, overseeing both its military affairs and its congregational prayer.
