112 – Abū Qurrah Mūsā ibn Ṭāriq al-Zabīdī (S)
A traditionist, an imam, and a recognized authority; he served as the qāḍī (judge) of Zabīd.
He travelled in search of knowledge and wrote down hadith from Mūsā ibn ʿUqbah, Ibn Jurayj, and a number of others.
Among those who narrated from him were Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal and Abū Ḥumah Muḥammad ibn Yūsuf al-Zabīdī.
He authored a Sunan collection.
Al-Nasāʾī alone transmitted his reports, and I know him only as trustworthy.
Hamzah al-Sahmī said: I asked al-Dāraqutnī, “Abū Qurrah never says, ‘So-and-so informed us (akhbaranā); he only says, ‘So-and-so mentioned.’ What is the reason for that?”
He replied, “Every one of those reports was indeed heard by him, but a calamity struck his notebooks. Out of caution he therefore preferred to say, ‘So-and-so mentioned.’”
113 – al-Khuraibī ʿAbd Allah ibn Dāwūd ibn ʿĀmir ibn Rabīʿ ** (Kh, 4)
The imam, ḥāfiẓ, and exemplar, Abū—
Harun transmitted from Saʿid b. Iyas al-Jariri, from ʿAbd Allah b. Buraida, that ʿAʾisha said: “Messenger of Allah, if I encounter Laylat al-Qadr, what should I ask for?” He replied: “Say: Allahumma innaka ʿafuwwun tuhibbu al-ʿafwa faʿfu ʿanni (O Allah, You are All-Pardoning and You love pardon, so pardon me).”
This report is also found in vol. 6, pp. 171, 183 and 208; in al-Tirmidhi, no. 3513 (Book of Supplications); and in Ibn Majah, no. 3850 (Book of Supplication), all through the chain of Kahmas b. al-Hasan b. ʿAbd Allah b. Buraida from ʿAʾisha. Al-Tirmidhi judged the hadith sound (sahih), and this verdict is justified. Al-Hakim likewise declared it sahih (1/530) via the isnad of Sufyan al-Thawri–ʿAlqama b. Murthid–Sulayman b. Buraida–ʿAʾisha, and al-Dhahabi agreed.
