Abū Ḥātim said, “He is sound.”
Ādam ibn Abī Iyās remarked, “I have never seen anyone more mindful of what issued from his own mouth than Damrah.”(1)
Ibn Saʿd observed, “He was reliable, trustworthy, and righteous; no one there surpassed him.” He then added, “He died at the beginning of Ramadan in the year 202 AH.”(2)
Abū Saʿīd ibn Yūnus likewise said, “In his day he was their jurist; he passed away in Ramadan, 202 AH.”
Aḥmad ibn Isḥāq al-Zāhid informed us; al-Fatḥ ibn ʿAbd Allāh informed us; Hibat Allāh ibn Abī al-Ḥusayn informed us; Abū al-Ḥusayn ibn al-Naqqūr informed us; ʿĪsā ibn ʿAlī dictated to us; Abū Bakr ʿAbd Allāh ibn Sulaymān dictated to us in the year 314 AH; and Abū ʿUmayr ʿĪsā ibn Muḥammad together with ʿĪsā ibn Yūnus of Ramla related to us, saying:
Damrah narrated to us, from al-Awzāʿī, from al-Zuhrī, from ʿUrwah, from ʿĀʾishah, who said:
“I perfumed the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, when he entered the state of consecration (iḥrām), and I perfumed him when he left it, with a fragrance unlike this perfume of yours.”
In his version Ibn Yūnus commented, “Meaning: it does not last.”
This narration is unique to Damrah. al-Nasāʾī recorded it(3) through the route of Abū ʿUmayr, and we have reproduced it with a higher-ranked chain.
