Al-Humaydī said: Yahyā ibn Sulaym narrated to us that Saʿīd ibn Sālim asked Ibn ʿAjlān, “Tell me, if I do not remove harmful objects from the road, will my faith be deficient?”
He replied, “That is Murjiʾ doctrine—who says such a thing?”
When we rose to leave I reproached him, and he talked back. I said, “Would you be willing to stand and proclaim, ‘People performing ṭawāf (circumambulation), your ṭawāf is not part of faith,’ while I say, ‘Rather, it is part of faith,’ and then see how they react?”
He answered, “Do you want to make a public spectacle of me?”
I said, “Then why cling to a statement that will disgrace you once it is made public? (1)”
I add: his death was shortly after that of Ibn ʿUyaynah, in the early one-nineties AH.
102 – As for ʿAbd Allah ibn Maymūn al-Qaddāḥ al-Makkī (T), the client of Banū Makhzūm,
He narrated from: Yahyā ibn Saʿīd al-Anṣārī, ʿUbayd Allah ibn ʿUmar, and Jaʿfar ibn Muḥammad.
Narrators from him include: Ibrāhīm ibn al-Munḏir, Muʾammal ibn Ihāb, Aḥmad ibn al-Azhar, and several others.
They deemed him weak.
