Abū Hāshim al-Ubullī, on the authority of Anas, who said:
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “O son of Adam! Your feet will not move on the Day of Resurrection until you are questioned about four things: your lifetime—how did you consume it? your body—how did you wear it out? your wealth—where did you earn it? and where did you spend it? (1)”
Abū Hāshim—whose name is Kathīr—is weak.
Shaqīq was killed in the campaign of Kūlān in the year 194 AH (2).
- Zayd ibn Abī al-Zarqāʾ, Abū Muḥammad al-Mawṣilī * (D, S)
The imam, the exemplar, Abū Muḥammad al-Mawṣilī.
He transmitted from Jaʿfar ibn Burqān, ʿĪsā ibn Ṭahmān, Shuʿbah ibn al-Ḥajjāj, Sufyān al-Thawrī, and others like them.
(1) The chain of transmission is weak because of Abu Hashim, whose full name is Kathir b. Abd Allah al-Sami al-Naji; he is listed in Tahdhib and al-Mizan. Abu Nuaym also included the report in al-Hilya 8/73 through al-Husayn b. Dawud with the same isnad. The text of the hadith itself is sound, for al-Tirmidhi (no. 2417, chapter on the Day of Resurrection) related it via Abd Allah b. Abd al-Rahman → al-Aswad b. Amir → Abu Bakr b. Ayyash → al-Aʿmash → Sa id b. Abd Allah b. Jurayj → Abu Barza al-Aslami. The Prophet said: “A servant’s feet will not move on the Day of Resurrection until he is questioned about his life—how he spent it; his knowledge—what he did with it; his wealth—how he acquired it and how he spent it; and his body—how he wore it out.” Al-Tirmidhi judged the hadith “good and sound,” and this appraisal is correct. It is also cited by al-Khatib al-Baghdadi in Iqtida al-Ilm al-Amal, no. 1; al-Darimi 1/135; and Abu Nuaym, al-Hilya 10/232. Parallel chains exist from Ibn Masud (al-Tirmidhi no. 2416; al-Tabarani, al-Saghir no. 745; al-Khatib, Tarikh Baghdad 12/440) and from Mu adh b. Jabal (al-Khatib, Iqtida, no. 2; Tarikh Baghdad 11/441).
