, Khalid al-Haddhaʾ, from Ikrimah, from Ibn ʿAbbās, who said:
“The Prophet ﷺ had a playful sense of humour.” (1)
I say: This report is objectionable, and a similar wording is transmitted as a mursal narration.
Ibn ʿAdī said: ʿAlī transmits about thirty ḥadīths that no one else relates.
Ahmad ibn ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd informed us; Mūsā ibn ʿAbd al-Qādir and ʿAbd Allāh ibn Zayd also related, saying: Abū al-Waqt informed us; Abū al-Ḥasan al-Dāwudi informed us; Ibn Ḥammuyah informed us; Ibrāhīm ibn Khuzaym informed us; ʿAbd ibn Ḥumayd narrated to us; ʿAlī ibn ʿĀṣim narrated to us, from Yaḥyā al-Bakkāʾ, who said: ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUmar told me—I heard ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb say:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Four rakʿahs before ẓuhr, after the sun has passed the meridian, are counted the same as their like in the pre-dawn prayer; at that moment there is nothing that is not glorifying Allah.” He then recited: “Their shadows incline to the right and to the left…”—the entire verse (al-Naḥl 16:48).
Al-Tirmidhī (2) recorded this ḥadīth from ʿAbd, and we meet his transmission with a higher isnād.
Bahshal said in his History: Tamīm ibn al-Muntaṣir narrated to us, saying: ʿAlī ibn ʿĀṣim was born in the year 108 AH.
Ibn Saʿd and Yaʿqūb ibn Shaybah said: He was born in 109 AH and died in Jumādā al-Ūlā 201 AH, at the age of ninety-two.
Ibn Saʿd added, “and some months,” at Wāsiṭ. (3)
