Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Numayr and ʿUbayd ibn Yaʿīsh both said, “He is trustworthy.”
Muslim cited him only in corroborative narrations, not in the primary chains.
ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Ṣāliḥ said, “Yūnus narrated to us, from Yūnus ibn ʿAmr, from his father, from al-Barāʾ, from Zayd ibn Ḥārithah, who said:
“O Messenger of Allah, you joined me in brotherhood with (1) Ḥamzah ibn ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib.” (2)
Yūnus died in 199 AH, having reached nearly eighty years of age.
Abū Jaʿfar ibn al-Muqayyar and a group of others told us: Yḥyā ibn Qumayrah reported to us; Shahdah informed us; Abū Ghālib al-Bāqillānī narrated to us; Abū ʿAlī ibn Shādhān informed us; and Aḥmad ibn ʿUthmān al-Ādamī, ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ismāʿīl al-Hāshimī, Abū Sahl ibn Ziyād, and ʿUthmān ibn al-Sammāk all said:
Aḥmad ibn ʿAbd al-Jabbār reported to us, saying: Yūnus ibn Bukayr narrated to us, from Hishām ibn ʿUrwah, from his father, from ʿĀʾishah, who said:
“My mother kept treating me, trying to make me gain a little weight so she could present me to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, but nothing worked until I ate dates with cucumbers. Then I gained the best weight one could hope for.” (3)
