Abu al-Hasan ʿAli ibn ʿAbd al-Ghani ibn al-Khatib Fakhr al-Din ibn Taymiyyah in Egypt informed us; ʿAbd al-Latif ibn Yusuf al-Lughawi informed us; and Ahmad ibn Ishaq informed us; al-Khatib Fakhr al-Din Muhammad ibn Abi al-Qasim also informed us, and they said:
Muhammad ibn ʿAbd al-Baqi ibn al-Batti informed us; ʿAli ibn Muhammad ibn Muhammad al-Khatib informed us; ʿAbd al-Wahid ibn Muhammad al-Farisi informed us; Muhammad ibn Makhlad informed us in the year 330 AH; Abu al-Qasim ʿAnbas ibn Ismaʿil al-Qazzaz narrated to us; Shuʿayb ibn Harb narrated to us; Sufyan al-Thawri narrated to us, from Malik ibn Anas, who said: ʿAmir ibn ʿAbd Allah ibn al-Zubayr narrated to us, from ʿAmr ibn Sulaym, from Abu Qatadah ibn Ribʿi, who said:
The Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—said, “When one of you enters the mosque, let him perform two units of prayer before sitting down (1).”
Through this same line of transmission, Muhammad ibn Makhlad informed us; al-ʿAlaʾ ibn Salim narrated to us; Shuʿayb ibn Harb narrated to us; Malik narrated to us; ʿAmir reported the same wording, but he did not mention Sufyan.
Ibn Makhlad commented, “In my view, this is the correct version.”
As for Yahya ibn Saʿid al-ʿAttar, he will be discussed in the next tier.
