I said, “The shortest chain that connects us with Yahya ibn Saʿid for this single narration is as follows:

“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, ‘Allah does not show mercy to anyone who shows no mercy to people.’ (1)”
Abu al-Maʿali Ahmad ibn Ishaq informed us; Abu Bakr Zayd ibn Hibat Allah informed us; Abu al-Qasim ibn Qafarjal informed us; ʽAsim ibn al-Hasan informed us; ʽAbd al-Wahid ibn Muhammad al-Farsi narrated to us; Abu ʽAbd Allah al-Mahamili narrated to us; Yaʽqub al-Dawraqi narrated to us; Yahya ibn Saʿid narrated to us; Abu Hayyan Yahya ibn Saʿid narrated to us; Yazid ibn Hayyan related to me, “I heard Zayd ibn Arqam say:
ʽUbayd Allah ibn Ziyad sent for me and asked, ‘What are these reports that have reached me—reports you are narrating and transmitting from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ…’”
