Siyar Aʿlām al-NubalāʾShams al‑Din al‑Dhahabi

– Ibn Ayyūb the Ascetic — ḥā’.

ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd al-Munʿim also informed us, on the authority of ʿAbd al-Jalīl ibn Mandawayh; and Naṣr ibn Muẓaffar likewise informed us. All three transmitted the following chain:

Abū al-Ḥusayn Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn al-Naqqūr informed us; ʿAlī ibn ʿUmar al-Ḥarbī narrated to us; Aḥmad ibn al-Ḥasan al-Ṣūfī related to us; Yaḥyā ibn Maʿīn told us; ʿAlī ibn Hāshim — together with Wakīʿ — transmitted from Hishām ibn ʿUrwah, from his father, from ʿĀʾishah, who said:

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “When your companion has died, leave him alone.”
Recorded by Abū Dāwūd. (1)

ʿAbd al-Ḥāfiẓ ibn Badrān and Yūsuf ibn Aḥmad both informed us, saying:

Saʿīd ibn Aḥmad ibn al-Bannāʾ informed us; Abū al-Qāsim ibn al-Busrī informed us; Abū Ṭāhir al-Mukhliṣ related to us; ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad narrated to us; Abū Bakr ibn Abī Shaybah told us; Wakīʿ reported from Hishām, from Qatādah, from Anas, from Zayd ibn Thābit, who said:

“We took the pre-dawn meal (suḥūr) with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, then we rose for the prayer.”
We asked, “How long was the interval between the two?”
He replied, “About the time it takes to recite fifty verses.”
Muslim also transmitted it (2) through Ibn Abī Shaybah with the same wording.

ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd al-Munʿim informed us; ʿAbd al-Ṣamad ibn Muḥammad, the judge — and I was present — informed us; ʿAlī ibn al-Musallam informed us; al-Ḥusayn ibn Muḥammad al-Qurashī informed us; Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad al-Ghassānī narrated to us; Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥasan told us —

(1) Hadith no. 4899 in the Book of Manners, chapter: “The prohibition against reviling the deceased,” transmitted through Zuhayr ibn Harb from Waki‘ with this same chain; he adds: “and do not abuse him.” The chain is sound. (2) Hadith no. 1097 in the Book of Fasting, chapter: “The merit of the pre-dawn meal (suhoor) and the emphasis on its recommendation.” Al-Bukhari also reports it, 4/118-119, through Muslim ibn Ibrahim; al-Tirmidhi, no. 703, through Abu Dawud al-Tayalisi; and al-Nasa’i, 4/143, through Waki‘—all three from Hisham, that is, al-Dastuwai, with the same chain.
