Mansur ibn ʿAmmar was seen in a dream after his death and was asked, “What has Allah done with you?”
He answered, “He forgave me and said, ‘O Mansur, I have pardoned you despite the many inconsistencies in your record, for you used to gather (1) people to remember Me.’ ”
Ahmad ibn Maniʿ reported: “Mansur ibn ʿAmmar narrated to us; Ibn Luhayʿah narrated to us from Yazid ibn Abi Habib, from Abu l-Khayr, from ʿUqbah—or Hudhayfah—that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: ‘After me my Companions will make a slip; Allah will forgive them because of their pioneering merit. Then a people who come after them will adopt that slip, and Allah will cast them headlong into the Fire.’ ”
Mansur ibn al-Harith reported: “Mansur ibn ʿAmmar narrated to us; Ibn Luhayʿah narrated to us from Yazid, from Abu l-Khayr, from ʿUqbah, traced back to the Prophet: ‘Eating the soft tips of a bird’s bones causes consumption (tuberculosis).’ ”
ʿAbd al-Rahman ibn Yunus reported: “Mansur narrated to us; Ibn Luhayʿah told me, from al-Aswad, from ʿUrwah, from ʿAʾishah, who said: ‘The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, came out wearing a cloak knotted between his shoulders and said, “I have put this on only to subdue arrogance (2).” ’ ”
Ibn ʿAdi then listed a number of irregular reports transmitted by Mansur, establishing that he is extremely weak as a narrator.
Abu Shuʿayb al-Harrani reported: ʿAli ibn Khushram told us that Mansur ibn ʿAmmar said, “When I arrived in Egypt they were suffering a drought. After the Friday prayer the people wept aloud and called upon Allah. A resolve came over me, so I stepped into the courtyard and cried out, ‘O people! Draw near to—’ ”
