Al-Bukhārī also recorded this report.
ʿAṭṭāf ibn Khālid transmitted—from ʿAbd al-Aʿlā ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Furwah, from his father—that the Prophet ﷺ visited the graves of the martyrs at Uḥud.
ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn ʿImrān ibn Mūsā narrated—from ʿAbbād ibn Abī Ṣāliḥ, from his father, from Abū Hurayrah—that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to go to the martyrs’ graves, and when he reached the mouth of the ravine he would say, “Peace be upon you for the patience you displayed; how excellent is the final abode.” Abū Bakr did the same after him, then ʿUmar, and then ʿUthmān.
Al-Wāqidī cited a similar tradition in his Maghāzī without an isnād (chain of transmission).
Abū Ḥassān al-Ziyādī said: In Shawwāl, on a Friday, ʿAmr ibn Mālik al-Anṣārī—one of the Banū al-Najjār—died. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out to Uḥud and performed the funeral prayer for him at the burial ground; he was the first for whom this was done.
The Expedition of Ḥamrāʾ al-Asad
Ibn Isḥāq relates: On the Monday morning following the battle of Uḥud, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered a caller to announce the pursuit of the enemy, and had another caller proclaim, “No one should accompany us except those who fought with us yesterday.” The Prophet ﷺ set out merely to strike fear into the enemy, so that news would reach them that he was on their heels and they would assume he still possessed strength.
Ibn Luhayʿah narrated—from Abū al-Aswad, from ʿUrwah—that a man arrived, and the Prophet ﷺ questioned him about Abū Sufyān. He replied, “I travelled alongside them and heard them reproaching one another,”
